Professional Piano Movers Nashville TN
In Music City, pianos aren’t just furniture — they’re instruments of passion, heirlooms of family history, and in many cases, the centerpiece of a home. Moving a piano incorrectly can cause thousands of dollars in damage to the instrument and serious injury to anyone attempting it without proper training and equipment.
Nashville Packers and Movers are Nashville’s premier piano moving specialists. We have the equipment, the training, and the experience to move any piano — from a small upright to a full concert grand — safely, efficiently, and without a scratch.
Types of Pianos We Move in Nashville
🎹 Upright Piano (Spinet, Console, Studio, Full Upright)
Upright pianos range from 300 to 500+ lbs and require specialized dollies, piano boards, and careful maneuvering through doorways, stairs, and hallways. Never attempt an upright piano move without professional help.
🎵 Baby Grand Piano
Baby grands must be partially disassembled — legs removed, pedal lyre detached, lid secured — before moving. They require a minimum of 3 experienced movers, a piano board, and extreme care around every corner and threshold.
🏆 Grand & Concert Grand Piano
Concert grands can weigh over 1,200 lbs and represent some of the most valuable instruments in existence. Moving a concert grand requires specialized equipment, expert disassembly, premium padding, and a team of highly trained professionals. This is our specialty.
🎸 Digital Piano & Electronic Keyboards
While lighter, digital pianos and stage pianos still require proper handling to protect delicate electronics, screens, and internal components. We treat your digital instrument with the same care as an acoustic one.
Why You Should NEVER Move a Piano Yourself
⚠️ The Risks of DIY Piano Moving:
- Pianos are front-heavy and can tip without warning, causing catastrophic injury
- Improper lifting causes back injuries that can be permanent
- Dragging or rolling a piano on its casters over thresholds or carpet can shatter the legs
- Without a piano board, the weight distribution causes frame stress and internal damage
- A dropped piano can cost $5,000–$50,000+ to repair or replace
- Most regular rental trucks don’t have the tie-down points needed to secure a piano safely
Our Piano Moving Process in Nashville
- ✅ Pre-move assessment: We evaluate the piano type, weight, current location, access points, stairs, and destination before quoting
- ✅ Professional disassembly: For grand pianos, we carefully remove legs, pedal lyre, and lid with proper tools and techniques
- ✅ Premium padding and wrapping: Heavy moving blankets, stretch wrap, and corner protectors on every surface
- ✅ Specialized piano board and dolly: We use proper piano skids and boards — not furniture dollies — to distribute weight correctly
- ✅ Stair climbing equipment: For stairs, we use stair-climbing dollies and additional crew members to ensure a controlled descent
- ✅ Secured transport: Piano is properly strapped and secured in the truck to prevent any movement during transit
- ✅ Professional reassembly: We reassemble grand pianos at the destination and position the instrument exactly where you want it
- ✅ Final inspection: We do a walkthrough with you to confirm everything arrived in perfect condition

Tips for Preparing Your Piano for Moving Day
- ✅ Close and lock the keyboard lid if your piano has a locking mechanism
- ✅ Remove any items stored inside or on top of the piano including books, candles, photos, and sheet music
- ✅ Measure doorways at both locations and let us know in advance if any are unusually narrow
- ✅ Clear the path from the piano’s current location to the exit — remove rugs, furniture, and anything that could cause a trip hazard
- ✅ Mark the destination spot in your new home before we arrive so we can position the piano correctly on the first try
- ✅ Plan for tuning after the move — pianos almost always need tuning after relocation due to temperature and humidity changes. We recommend waiting 2–4 weeks after the move before scheduling your tuning appointment
